Private Client
At Strathyre Place, 125 Architects transformed a traditional Falkirk home into a light-filled, open‑plan family haven — rooted in craftsmanship, connection, and clarity.
Reimagining the everyday.
When our clients came to us, they dreamed of a home that felt more generous, more connected to their garden, and flooded with natural light — while still preserving the warm character of their property. Our response: a sensitive yet bold reconfiguration of the ground floor. We combined the living, dining, and kitchen areas into a single flowing space. This layout creates a relaxed family environment, maximises sightlines into the garden and retains the majority of the outdoor space for planting and children to play.

A seamless extension.
We introduced a large glazed corner element that literally opens the house to the garden. This glass corner floods the interior with daylight, blurs the boundary between inside and out and provides level, step-free access out to a new patio — perfect for summer dinners, family mornings, or simply relaxing in the fresh air. Above, a clerestory window tucked within the existing boundary walls brings yet more natural light in, while preserving privacy and avoiding the need for fire-rated glazing.
Detail that matters.
We didn’t stop at light and openness. A zinc canopy shelters the new extension, offering protection from the elements while making a confident architectural statement. The white render connects harmoniously with the existing façade, creating visual continuity and a modern reinterpretation of the home.
Inside, built-in storage was thoughtfully integrated — not just as shelving or cupboards, but as a way to conceal the TV, gaming consoles and electronics when not in use. This keeps the space clean, uncluttered and child‑friendly, while giving the living area a calm, intentional feel.
Thermal performance.
Everyone wants the beauty of a glass extension — but not at the expense of comfort or energy efficiency. By carefully placing our clerestory window and using high-performance glazing, we’ve created a “glass-like” aesthetic without compromising on thermal efficiency. The design keeps the space warm in winter, cool in summer and economical to run.

Why this project works.
Light-filled & Open: By breaking down compartmentalised rooms, we’ve created a bright, unified family space.
Garden Connection: The large corner glazing and level access give the house a much stronger relationship to its garden.
Sensitive Integration: The zinc canopy and white render connect old and new in a way that feels considered, not jarring.
Clever Storage: Built-ins hide media and electronics, keeping the space serene.
Energy-conscious design: Well-specified glazing and thoughtful detailing deliver both beauty and performance.
